We, Indians, love to create
"God men" out of simple living beings in our society ! But our love
doesn't merely stop there; we raise them to a pedestal, where any form of
criticism against them becomes a taboo and is regarded as a sinister act. From
cricketers to movie stars; from businessmen to politicians and so on, we have
created "God men" everywhere. Ostensibly, the " Godly Halo"
that surrounds these men has seized all possible outlets to even question them.
Undoubtedly, in the contemporary times, we have elevated Mr. Modi to the
same Godly pedestal and have coronated him as our "National God" !
Likewise, in the early 90s, we hailed Mr. Singh as our "Saviour God".
Albeit, it seems like "Godhood" in India is not permanent and
"devaluation" can happen anytime ! This,
what I call, "the great Indian dichotomy". Anyways,
"Godhood" does put manacles onto the hands of those who stand to
oppose and challenge the status-quo ! Let us not kill the very fabric of
healthy debating by creating "God men" or "God -damn-men".
Unfortunately, today, the Halo effect surrounding certain politicians in the
Indian Polity, has debased and demeaned the standards of our political
governance. Tagging one with a sanctified Halo and other with a long demonic
Horn, is nowhere a panacea to the existing problems in this country !
